They are, probably along with the fabulous Thanes from Scotland, one of the very few bands of the genre that keep the faith! “On The Move” is the follow-up album after last year’s live CD “A Go-Go At A Cave Near You” on Inka Records! Great compositions, well-structured instrumentation and awesome production in combination with a “lost-in-tyme” artwork make this effort by far their best! Their now-sound can be described as “retro neo-garage”, based on the legacy of the best groups of the 60’s punk Era and the most important revivalists of the 80’s and 90’s, since the majority of the groups of the genre today sound with an obvious distorted orientation. Thus, it is not only their Farfisa dominated sound that rules inhere but overall, an appreciation attitude towards the originators. “The Brood” is the album’s opening track, a great instrumental tune with references to the B-movies atmosphere of the mid-60’s! Way-cool fuzz-punkers will follow such as “Why She’d Ever Leave”, “I Live In Hell”, “You Made Me Cry” and the self-titled “On The Move”. were first met in the University of Birmingham in 2001. After they have witnessed numerous gigs, they decided to form a group and just after a while they started composing originals and recording demos in various studios. From their very first live appearances, although totally unknown to the most, they stirred the public with their fresh and exciting British pop sound. From then on, they managed to draw the attention of a noteworthy following that gradually was getting increased. The band returns to Greece where they keep playing and rehearsing their own originals in a pop vein with guitars and synths. Their sound is characterized by the velvet and dreamy vocals, which are perfectly bond with the rest of the instrumentation, proving a very talented group of advanced maturity! The band’s performance as an opening act to Six By Seven from United Kingdom last February was a unique opportunity to deliver their sound to a wider audience. The feedback received was exceedingly positive, a fact that led ON STAGE RECORDS to include their number “I Want You” in “Enjoy The Greeks” CD compilation. After such a very successful deal, the group steps on to the future with self-confidence and lot of ambition! In the spring of 2005, the band goes into the studio to prepare its first CD single attempt. This debut 3-track EP, entitled “This Is The Night” is a perfect mixture of pop, disco, indie and waltz, is expected to amaze listeners and magazine reviewers internationally as it features a completely alternate viewpoint of the modern pop culture in music. The band was formed many years ago in Belgium by Jolt and Y while they were still students. At that time the group consisted of three members and borrowed bore names such as Slag Throbs and Probing The Mess. Their music had a pure punk-new wave sound. Later, back in Greece, Y joined a 4-membered Goth-Punk band called Injectile that managed to record and almost made it to release a 3-song EP. Injectile appeared live only a few times. Around 1999, Jolt (guitar and vocals) and Y (bass and vocals) got together again and along with Dusty, at the time being the drummer and third member of the group, formed THE GRIMES. Soon Snow, an old acquaintance, joined in as second guitar and vocals. Dusty decided to leave the band after four years due to his musical differences. He was replaced by a few other drummers, none of which suited the aim and attitude of THE GRIMES. Finally in 2004, Billy joined in and has been the drummer of the band ever since. Before joining THE GRIMES, Billy used to be a member of a Mohawk-hardcore outfit called Karkinoma. THE GRIMES performed for the first time in November 2003 as a support band to the local rockabilly act Alexandros Perros And The Lone Stars. They have since supported major acts like The Stranglers and The Vibrators and have appeared in various music festivals. Their new effort entitled “Shooting Season”, an EP out on CD on ON STAGE RECORDS which got a lot of airplay on local radio stations. THE GRIMES are a political band. Their lyrics deal with the social and personal problems that arise from contemporary urban life.
